LO2: Survey monkey Feedback

The feedback that I got from the survey monkey questionnaire was:
  • Be mindful of angles when taking the pictures because I will have to line up the pictures perfectly to create the desired effect.
  • I should be careful not to include random people in my photographs since I will be using public places

Strengths:
  • One strength is the locations I will be using.
 Improvements:
  • One improvement is that I need to think about how I am going to get the images half and half and side by side.
  • Another improvement is to identify some more techniques that I will use in my pictures

Next step:
  • I need to go and think some more about how I am going to actually edit the images and also which techniques I am going to use.

LO2: Copyright, Permissions, legal and ethical

Copyright

Copyright is when permission is needed in order to use someones intellectual property in a photograph/ Film etc. This is important for our photographs because if we photograph something that is protected by copyright it could result in fine and also if we have to use any other assets. This law is called Copyright Infringement.

Permission and release form

Ways to avoid having people in your photos:

  • Frame picture so only the object you want to photograph is in frame
  • Time of day ( If it is a landmark go later to avoid people being in the frame)

Gaining permissions is not just about models permission, we may also need permission to use locations that are private land. I need to find out if the places I want to photograph are private land.
  • Avoid using telephoto lens in public because it allows to take pictures from a distance.
  • Being careful not take pictures with kids around

Legal and ethical

The reason we have to think about representations is because:
  • We have to avoid using negative stereotypes regarding Race/Religion/Age/Gender/Class
  • Discrimination
  • The model knows the intention of the photos
  • Misrepresenting the model (defamatory)

LO1: Macro photographer analysis

Niko Vass

Photographic Category
Niko Vass is a macro photographer, he takes pictures of small objects through a macro lens to make them appear bigger and still in good quality.

Purpose
His photos could be shown in magazine articles abut macro photography or newspaper articles, they could also be found on the internet, either on his website or in an article on another website.

Image analysis

This image is an extreme close up of a pocket watch, a shallow depth of field is used in this photo because the foreground of the photo is in focus, whilst the background is out of focus.

Meaning
The meaning of the photo could be, since the foreground is in focus and the background is out of focus it could mean that you should focus on the present and not obsess over the future, this interpretation is reinforced by the fact that a pocket watch is included in the photo which suggests a link to time.He has also used framing, such as the rule of thirds because the pocket watch is on one of the focal points.

LO1: Nature photographer analysis

John Shaw

Photographic category:

John Shaw is a nature photographer who also does some landscape photography. He has been working as as photographer since the 1970's.

Purpose:

John Shaw's photos could be used in nature magazines or articles in newspapers about animals and nature. They can also be found on John's website along with his bio and contact information.

Image Analysis

The image above is being use to show the wildlife of America, in the picture there is a shallow depth of field because the horses are in the foreground which is in focus, while the trees in the background are out of focus. Having these included in the photo also has connotations of nature. A fast shutter speed will have been used to take this photo because the horses are moving fast and to capture a clear image of them a fast shutter speed will have had to be used. This image has probably had a fast shutter speed in order to capture the horses as they are moving.

Meaning:
The meaning of the photo above is to show the majesty of the wildlife in this part of America and also of the sprawling beauty of the background of the photo as well. It does through framing for example the rule of thirds is used in this picture since the horses are placed on the focal points.
